EYFS Profile handbook

The Profile handbook provides practitioners with guidance and support in creating profiles that summarise and describe each child’s learning and development at the end of EYFS during the academic year that he or she reaches the age of five.

The handbook describes the assessment process and the responsibilities of those involved in assessing, completing, recording and moderating EYFS profiles. It also provides detailed guidance for practitioners on using the 13 assessment scales with each scale and scale point being described and illustrated with exemplification materials.

The scales and scale points are also summarised on the Assessment scales reference sheet.

Practitioners may also find it useful to access the additional guidance notes and case studies on assessment that can be downloaded from the web page of that name.

For statutory requirements on assessment and reporting arrangements for the EYFS profile, practitioners should refer to 2008 Assessment and reporting arrangements.

All these documents can be downloaded in pdf format from this site, the EYFS profile handbook and Assessment scales reference sheet can also be ordered from the QCA Orderline.

Downloadable video exemplification materials are also available via the on-line exemplifications page.
