Exam fees estimator 2008/9

An online tool to estimate the cost of late general qualifications entries across awarding bodies.

The exam fees estimator can help centres reduce the cost of missing deadlines for submitting entries for the 2008/9 exams series. The late submission of entries not only results in an increased cost for centres, but also negatively impacts on awarding body operations and administration arrangements.

Deadlines for entries are published by the JCQ in agreement with the awarding bodies to ensure a consistent approach to examination administration.

The exam fees estimator tool automatically calculates the estimated costs of on time, late and very late GCSE and GCE entries by subject and by awarding body. It is intended to act as guidance only to provide an illustration of the potential cost to exams centres of missing deadline dates. However, where exceptions apply there will be differences in pricing. Please check awarding body websites for the latest information.

Getting started

To log in to the exam fees estimator you will need a valid email address. A work email address is preferable.

Before you start, please have your candidate entry information to hand. We recommend reading the Exam fees estimator user guide. The user guide can be downloaded as a pdf below or accessed at any time when using the online tool by clicking the 'user guide' icon at the top right of each page.

Hints and tips

  • You can not copy and paste the pin number from the email into the entry field. The pin must be typed manually for it to work correctly.
  • To navigate between GCSE and GCE select either the 'subject for GCSEs' or the 'subjects for GCEs' tab.
  • The subjects and awarding bodies displayed on the 'entering candidate details' screen represent the data you entered on the previous screen. Enter the number of candidates for each subject and awarding body. For example, if you have 100 candidates for a subject and they are doing three units each you should enter 300 under the number of modules/units.
  • Use the 'back' and 'proceed' buttons at the top and bottom of each page to navigate your way through the tool. You must complete each page before moving on to the next.
  • Each page gives you the option to 'save and log out'. When you return to use the tool to complete your report, you will be asked to log in using the pin number you were sent by email following the registration process. Each time you log in you will be taken back to the 'select your subjects' page.
  • Please ensure you click on 'save and log' out before exploring the links on the left otherwise you will lose the data entered on the page you are working on.
  • The tool allows you to create reports for a specific department, colleague or senior team member. You may only want them to see certain subject information. Create the specific report and then use the 'clear all data' button to restart the process. Remember to keep a copy of each report before clicking 'clear all data' as it will be deleted. For more information please see the user guide.
  • NEW: The tool allows you to print or email the reports. It is important that you keep a personal copy of any report generated . All information entered in the tool will be overwritten when you create new entries. The email option allows you to include your own email address in the recipient field. For more information please see the user guide.

The fees shown in the tool are correct at time of publication: 30 November 2008. Please check the awarding body websites for the latest information:
